POINTS OF INTEREST for a BUYER

When you are finally ready to start looking for a home, where do you actually begin? Have you been to the bank? What area do you want to be in? Where do you want your kids to go to school? What about resale value? Is the house sold already? If you obtain the services of a Realtor we find out the answers to these and many more questions you would never even think about.

Do you know some of the expenses incurred when you buy a home? Here is a list of basics for the B.C. Northern area:

  • Lawyer or Notary fees
  • Survey Certificate (if required)
  • Mortgage costs
  • Appraisal (if required)
  • Fire Insurance Premium
  • Sales tax (if applicable)
  • Property Transfer Tax *
  • Goods and Services Tax (if applicable) **
  • Deposit
  • Home Inspection

*Property Transfer Tax is charged when the title is transferred
**GST is charged when you buy a new home, unless otherwise stated.

Municipal taxes, utilities, and interest adjustment are usually sorted out by the lawyer/notary.
